The practice of using herbs for healing is a traditional ancient African practice. Herbs have a wide range of usage for women. In particular, herbs were used to restore health and well-being to our womb, especially after a natural birth. This ancestral ritual was a way to use earth elements to strengthen our body and spirit after such a transformational experience.
Now, womb steaming, also called v- steaming, vaginal steaming, and more commonly Yoni [Sanskrit] steaming, is a way to treat various feminine issues by using specific medicinal herbs [and heat] to draw out toxins.
The womb has a consciousness of its own. ~unknown
A naturally healthy vagina will do what it does to clean itself. Outside of daily external cleansing, steaming sessions can be done at a reputable Yoni steam spa or location. Yoni steaming can also be done in the comfort of your home. Herbs can be purchased from an apothecary that you know and trust.
Benefits Of Yoni Steaming
Each batch can vary. The key ingredients include herbs with antibacterial properties, such as motherwort, healing properties, such as rose or lavender, and astringents, such as orange peel, to tighten, tone, and moisturize. The combination in each batch benefits overall womb wellness and can be used to:
improve vaginal dryness
assist with womb care after childbirth
help release emotional trauma from sexual partners
Yoni Steaming At Home
During your steaming session, As you sit over a batch of herbs draped from the waist down or in your steaming cape, make it a whole experience.
Set the tone :
Connect with your herbs. Please give thanks for its gift to you.
Light a candle- Try a blue candle for relaxation, white for purity, or pink for self-love. Let your intuition be your guide.
Play soothing music or sit in silence and be present.
Journal- you can journal during or after to release thoughts that need to be purged. The universe doesn't work in voids. As you release, be clear about what you are letting go of and what you want to invite into your life with affirmations and healthy daily practices.
If you find you need to cry- don't hold back.
As you dispose of the herbs or return them to nature, give thanks for the experience.
Note: Store any leftover unused herbs in a cool, dry place.
When you sit with yourself, a world of emotions may come up. Let them. Let the herbs and let nature wrap you up and restore you. Connect with Spirit the best way you know how. There is no right or wrong way.
Yoni Steaming Safety
While I am a fan of Yoni steaming, I think it's a great way to reconnect to your heart and womb space. However, I must add that safety is a priority. Pregnant women should not use yoni steams. Also, do not Yoni steam while on your period. You can use it after and preferably not more than once a month so as not to disrupt your natural flora. Please be mindful of the temperature as it can cause burns to delicate areas if the water is too hot. When working with herbs, even though herbs are natural, every herb is not for everyone. Note any irritation or discomfort and make changes accordingly. Consult your doctor or health practitioner for any underlying issues or concerns before choosing Yoni Steam.
