How To Prioritize Self- Care As A Busy Woman

Updated: Sep 21, 2023

In this space, we are all about supporting ourselves and committing to cultivating joy and wellness.

Self-care promotes mental, physical, and spiritual well-being for a more compassionate, reflective, and peaceful lifestyle. Sometimes, we can get lost in mundane tasks and forget to be present and loving so intentional self-care helps us restore balance. And like any other practice, your self-care can improve over time.

First, it can be as simple as including multiple daily choices to improve your well-being. For example, 5 minutes to make your bed, 10 minutes of reflective writing, or 15 minutes to stretch your body daily. Over time, you can build a mindfulness routine inviting more mindfulness.

Self-care can also look like

Setting time aside for activities to help improve blood flow through movement, nourish your mind and body, and reduce stress in your home.

Consider the suggestions below.

Move your body daily. Maybe the gym is not your thing, but what about yoga or dance aerobics? When I was younger, my mother had a dance-themed workout on VHS. I forgot the company's name, but three older women wore African print workout clothes in a dance studio. Don't tell my mom, but I found a modern version of this childhood memory here.

The hips and pelvis can store deep emotions, so daily movement will help release tension.

Get the right minerals and nutrients for your body. Black communities [often] don't have the healthiest food options. So you can easily eat a lot and still be malnourished. When you're not absorbing nutrients, it affects your mood as well as vitality.

You can support your local black-owned store by purchasing high-quality supplements like sea moss.

Women must build up their blood because we deplete ourselves monthly through our menstrual cycle.

Put your house in order. I understand that as a busy mom, you may not have time to color code your closet or organize every room to your liking. However, taking a few simple steps can make a big difference in tidying things. For example, making your bed as soon as you wake up and putting things back in their place after use can go a long way in maintaining a clean and organized home.

If you have younger children, they can have a designated area to localize their stuff to one place. If you have teens, well, they can also be like toddlers. As long as the common areas are tidy, you may have to pick your battles in other areas of your home for your mental health.

So, what does self-care mean to you?

Do you have any routines or methods to care for yourself regularly or assist you when needed?

Nurturing yourself through self-care is choosing to show up for yourself in every way.

Be well.
