Make Yourself a Priority: Creating a Mindful Morning Routine

Updated: May 14

Creating a mindful morning routine is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to prioritize self-care and set the tone for your day. Rising before sunrise is often considered a sacred time for tuning into spirit, aligning with your highest self, and harnessing the potent energy of the sun as it awakens the world. But even if you’re not an early riser just yet, you can still create a meaningful morning ritual that nourishes your mind, body, and spirit.

Starting Small, Growing Strong

Begin by adding just one or two simple practices to your morning. This approach makes it easier to build a consistent habit over time, setting the foundation for a more intentional routine. As your energy builds, you can expand these small steps into a habit stack—a series of consecutive actions that flow naturally into each other.

Simple Ways to Start Your Day with Intention:

  • Wake up at the same time daily

  • Express gratitude as soon as you wake up

  • Make your bed, creating a sense of order

  • Take a mindful shower, cleansing not just your body but your energy

  • Enjoy a warm drink (without rushing)

  • Move your body – stretch, do Sun Salutations, or try Kemetic yoga

  • Breathe deeply with pranayama

  • Meditate or chant to center your mind

  • Read or write your goals for the day

  • Journal your dreams or reflections

  • Write affirmations that set the tone for your day

  • Pour libations or set intentions for your ancestors

  • Pull an Oracle card for guidance

Protect Your Peace in the Morning

As important as it is to nourish yourself in the morning, it’s equally essential to avoid energy-draining habits. The first moments of your day set the tone, so choose them wisely:

  • Skip the emails. Most can wait until you’ve centered yourself. If you’re an entrepreneur, consider setting clear office hours.

  • Avoid social media. It’s designed to pull you in and keep you there. Give your mind a break from the noise.

  • Limit news exposure. The stories you consume shape your energy. Choose peace.

Why It Matters:

When you start your day with intention, you set the stage for more energy, improved mood, better focus, and a deeper connection to yourself. You’re more likely to handle the unexpected with grace, recover from setbacks quickly, and maintain a sense of inner peace.

Remember, prioritizing yourself is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. You deserve to feel grounded, energized, and deeply connected to your purpose every day.

Be well, and rise with intention.Creating a mindful AM routine may be helpful if you want to have more energy and peace throughout the day. Right before sunrise is considered a potent time energetically to tune into spirit and bring your highest self into the day ahead.

Avoid checking your email first thing in the morning. Most business hours are closed anyway. And if it is work-related, more than likely, it can wait. If you are an entrepreneur, you still need some separation between home and work. So whenever possible, set office hours. As an entrepreneur, one of your agreements with yourself can be that you will not check your email until 9 a.m., noon, or after you've had your coffee, etc.
