Most people are familiar with Shadow work, based on the theories of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. However, shadow work has always been an African-centered concept of exploring and integrating the shadow aspects of our personality in order to live truth or Maat.

As it relates to this post, the shadow represents the suppressed, rejected, or disowned parts of ourselves that we unconsciously hide from the world and ourselves. Therefore, the shadow is not necessarily negative or evil; instead, it includes both our personality's positive and negative traits. It holds our unacknowledged desires, fears, insecurities, and unresolved traumas. By facing and cooperating with our shadow self, we can better understand ourselves and attain a greater sense of wholeness.

Unveiling the Unconscious

Shadow work involves embracing our unconscious mind and bringing its contents to our conscious awareness. This process requires courage, self-reflection, and a willingness to explore the uncomfortable territories of our psyche.
